Until recently, shaving, plucking, waxing, and electrolysis were the only methods of removing unwanted hair. In the early 1990s, the first reports of using laser energy to selectively damage and disable actively growing hair follicles were published, and since the mid 1990s, laser hair removal has become the Gold Standard for the management of unwanted hair.

People started to crave for the newly discovered laser hair removal, but as they undertook the treatment they found out several side effects. Nonetheless, it should be noted that the side effects are only temporary.

There are several laser hair removal systems available today, but they all work using the principal of selective photothermolysis, in which a carefully timed pulse of laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed and converted to heat energy at the hair follicle.

Because longer wavelength laser light penetrates deepest, the most common lasers used are the Ruby, Alexandrite, Diode, and Nd:YAG lasers, all red or infrared lasers. The bottom line, all of these may be the cause for some side effects that a patient may experience.

The possibility exists that some side effects of laser hair removal can be one of the following:

? Redness- this could be an initial side effect on the part of the client after undergoing the laser hair removal which is usually caused by the heat that transpires on the skin to the hair follicles.

? Swelling- this complements the redness of the patients skin after treatment.

? Itching- it is commonly experienced by the patients during treatment sessions.

? Pain, tingling, or feeling of numbness (cold spray) – this is why the surgeons advised the patients not to apply any cream prior to the treatment that may cause their numbness.

? Crusting/scab formation (on ingrown hairs).

? Bruising- this is noted to be one of the rarest cases being brought up by the patients after the laser hair removal treatment.

? Purpura (Purple Coloring of the skin) on tanned areas- the laser hair removal is not that advisable for individual who have tanned skin because this is the most crucial problem that they could encounter after treatment.

? Temporary pigment change- it could be classified as either hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation on the clients skin.

Although there are some risks in laser hair removal treatment, there are still other clients who have tested the treatment that have described it as simply as having a feeling of being snapped by a rubber band. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but some areas of the body are more sensitive than others which is why they experience these side effects. This is very normal even with other forms of skin treatments.

Immediate side effects if any are frequently minor and short lived. Most people return to their normal activities right away.

People should not be upset if there are some side effects brought by the laser hair removal because the lasers that are used at out-clinic are non-invasive and are designed to be gentle enough to treat an individuals sensitive skin and effective enough to remove even a mans beard or back hair. Each has an active cooling system to gently treat hair while protecting the appearance of the surrounding skin.

Even though there are a few side effects with laser hair removal we must bear in mind that these are unavoidable, and for most people the outcome still outweighs this annoyance.br
When you have made the decision to rid yourself of unwanted hairs there are two choices to consider electrolysis and laser. As with electrolysis, cases of scarring have been reported, but these are extremely rare. Compared with electrolysis, laser hair removal is more precise and much faster. Electrolysis is intended to be a permanent hair procedure, but much like laser hair removal, it is not guaranteed to be 100% effective. Prior to laser technology, the only options for removing unwanted hair were smelly hair removal creams, sharp razors, stinging wax or painful electrolysis needles. In fact, laser technology is already eliminating the need for these traditional methods.

Almost anybody who has undesirable hair is a candidate for laser hair removal. Both men and women have found laser technology beneficial for hair removal. A common area where laser hair removal is used is the face, chin, and upper lip on women. Another area to receive laser hair removal for women is the legs.

For laser hair removal to work, the light energy is selectively absorbed by highly pigmented hair fibers and hair follicles. So, less laser energy is required to remove upper lip hair than for pubic hair. Several wavelengths of laser energy have been used for hair removal, from visible light to near infrared radiation. In facial hair removal, a low energy laser beam is directed towards a group of hair follicles.

Current laser hair removal techniques use wavelengths of light that target melanin, the pigment that determines color of both hair and skin. The level of pain depends on the patient and the persons skin and hair type. The presence of a suntan makes hair removal less effective and increases the likelihood of scarring or skin injury. As such, skin color must be taken into consideration. The risks can include skin discoloration, swelling, and infection. Generally, patients with dark hairs and fair skin respond best to laser hair removal.

While laser hair removal is an excellent treatment option, research efforts continue to enhance the procedure. The diode laser has a longer wavelength than other lasers used for hair removal, which may improve treatment results on darker skin types. The most common side effects are edema and erythema, which generally resolve within 24 hours after treatment.

Though it is relatively painless, you may experience a bit of discomfort from the procedure. While it is a minimally invasive procedure, the procedure is not totally free from risks. Fortunately, the complications are rare if an experienced and skilled physician does it. When done properly, the procedure can be performed quickly and comfortably during an outpatient visit.

Get ready to experience the hassle-free world of hair removal with laser technology. However, when selecting the facility to perform you hair removal, ask them about their experience and any other concerns you may have. In addition, laser hair removal is not necessarily permanent; most people will experience some regrowth within a year.br

Acne laser rosacea treatment is being offered by many cosmetic outfits and many people have opted for such treatments. Acne rosacea occurs in people within 30-50 years of age. The cheeks and the nose are most common areas affected by this inflammatory disease. The chin, forehead, chest, scalp and ears may also get affected. First a few pimples may occur some of which may have pus followed by tiny blood vessels that appear on the face giving it a flushed or reddish appearance. The disease may progress into a condition called Rhinophyma.

Acne laser rosacea treatment has indeed made a drastic change as people are symptom free. Such treatment gives them a chance to look youthful, have a more even color, free from the flushing/redness associated with rosacea. VBeam Pulsed Dye laser and Intense Pulsed Light (laser like light treatment) have both been successful in treating patients suffering from rosacea. The VBeam laser has been used in treating patients with vascular problems since the last two decades. Many are treated using a combination of the pulsed dye laser as well as the IPL technology. A non coherent, broad spectrum light is emitted by the IPL device which is used to treat rosacea. The light is absorbed by the skin and it successfully destroys the abnormal vessels reducing the redness.

Acne laser rosacea treatment is done using the VBeam dye pulsed laser. An intense burst of laser is directed at the affected area. This is safe on the skin as the skin is cooled seconds prior to the laser treatment by a dynamic cooling device. The small blood vessels in the area absorb the light which greatly reduces the redness.

It is recommended that patients seek the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner before they decide to opt for treatment. This consultation is crucial as it helps the dermatologist to determine if it is safe for you to get treated based on your health, skin condition and family history. The Acne laser rosacea treatment is best done after a patch test has been performed. Be sure to find out how many treatments may be required. The procedure may cost $100 – $450 or more per session for a laser treatment where as an IPL treatment may cost as much as $3000 for the entire treatment process. The treatment is done with gaps of 3-4 weeks between each sitting.

The patch test is required and you need to wait and see if any redness, swellings, sores and/or hypo/hyper pigmentation occurs. If there are no adverse reactions to your patch Acne laser rosacea treatment you may be advised on what you can and cannot do two weeks prior to the treatment. It is better not to consider going in for a treatment if you are planning a pregnancy or are pregnant.

The skin may appear to be reddish and swollen for 1-2 days after treatment. In some cases hypo/hyper pigmentation may occur which may be permanent, scarring is possible too. It is best that you consult a physician who is reputable and has successfully treated many other people using the Acne laser rosacea treatment technology.

Laser hair removal is a hot topic lately and if you are not informed, you might think it is an easy hair removal solution for anyone. The truth is laser hair removal is not for everyone and even for those who are good candidates, each will respond differently to the treatment.

The first obstacle to overcome is the price. An average laser hair removal session typically costs $500 and up to four treatments may be required. And of course, this is an elective procedure so the costs are not covered by most insurance.

The next consideration is the person’s pigment. The pigment is what gives coloring to the hair and skin. In order to be a candidate for laser hair removal, a person must have hair that is darker than the skin surrounding it. Therefore people that have dark coarse body hair against light skin will be most successful with the laser process; more so than those with light hair and dark skin.

Pigment gets its color from melanin. Melanin has to absorb the energy from the hair removal laser which puts out a good deal of heat. Melanin surrounds the part of the hair follicle where new hair is germinated and once it absorbs the heat from the laser and is destroyed, the structure is also destroyed and future hair growth will cease.

Since people with dark skin or tanned skin have a large amount of melanin, their skin is able to absorb more of the laser energy therefore the laser might not be able to penetrate the hair follicle and destroy the structure that produces new hair growth. One way to decrease the amount of laser energy the skin absorbs is by cooling the skin with a cold compress during the procedure. Then the laser can bypass the skin and go straight to the melanin inside the hair follicle.

Another way to keep the skin cool during laser hair removal surgery is to use multi pulsing lasers. Because this laser is pulsed and not streamed, the skin is kept cooler. In fact there are several new laser technologies emerging which are designed to help combat the difficulty of using lasers on darker skin.

Part two of this article will outline the advantages and disadvantages of laser hair removal and some important things you should know before deciding to utilize this technique.

If you have heard all the facts about laser hair removal, you already know your answer to that question. But, although it is heavily advertised, most people actually do not know all that much about laser hair removal. But, this is okay because you can find quite a bit of the information you need to make a decision on it right here on the web. Laser hair removal works by targeting the dark material on the skin. There are many more facts that you need to know though, before you can make a decision.

How It Works

How does it work? Laser hair removal works through a light wavelength that targets these dark colored materials on your skin. This is usually the pigment of the hair. It works through a hand held device that targets these areas and removes hair from them. It works the best on those with fair colored skin and dark colored hair. The darker the skin’s pigment the more difficult the procedure of laser hair removal will work on you.

What To Know

Although laser hair removal has been around for a long time, it has only been used commercially for a handful of years. In that time period, many have found great success with this process. But, the hair removal is not always permanent. Hair that does come back can be lighter in color in some people. For others, it does remain gone. Laser hair removal is quite expensive as well.

Problems With Laser Hair Removal

When used properly, there are few problems, medically speaking, that can occur during laser hair removal. Yet, many people complain that it is a painful process. You will not be given any medication, as the pain isn’t horrible, but it is uncomfortable. Also, if done wrong, laser hair removal can cause a number of issues such as burns, skin that is discolored for months at a time, lesions, and patchy hair regrowth.

Source: isnare.com

Laser hair removal is fast becoming one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. So here are all the facts that you need to know before you go under the light.

So, you have finally decided that the unwanted hair has to go. You are sick and tired of the daily or weekly ritual of shaving, waxing, or creaming off the hair, and want a more permanent solution. Many people turn to the latest trend in hair removal – the laser.

This procedure has been touted as the permanent solution to unwanted hair removal, and has shown great promise in delivering on that claim. However, before investing your valuable time and hard earned money into laser treatments, don’t you owe it to yourself to perform a little research on the procedure?

Of course you do, and the following questions and answers will assist you in making an educated decision as to whether laser treatments are right for you.

Exactly what is the laser procedure?

The laser hair removal process centers on the delivery of light, at a specified wavelength, from a handheld instrument into the skin, where it targets darker material. This material is usually the pigment found in the hair. This causes damage to the hair follicle, slowing or eliminating future growth, while not affecting the surrounding tissue area.

Is the procedure safe?

The procedure has been deemed safe by the FDA when administered by a licensed technician. Always use a licensed technician, to perform these treatments. And don’t be afraid to request customer references from your prospective technician before signing up for treatments.

Will I need more than one treatment?

The laser procedure is generally a multi-visit hair removal process. Basically, the larger the area of unwanted hair, i.e. back or legs, the greater the number of treatments required. This should be a key factor in your decision to use this procedure, because treatments can be rather expensive.

Who is best suited for this procedure?

People who tend to respond most positively to this procedure tend to be light skinned and possess a darker hair color. The laser procedure is not as effective on non-pigmented hair, such as, gray or light blonde hair. Those who have darker skin tones, or tans, must be very cautious due to the risk of tissue damage. Extreme cases have been known to experience burns, lesions or even skin discoloration.

Are the results of the laser procedure permanent?

This is a question which is still being debated. Because of the relative newness of the procedure, data collection has been less than adequate. Until more experience and analysis is available, be wary of any technician claiming that it is 100% permanent. At present, the medical consensus is that the laser hair removal process will result in a range of outcomes, dependent on the patient’s physical characteristics. In general, you can expect to experience a dramatic reduction in hair growth, and if and when hair does re-grow, it will come back lighter in color or finer in texture.

One thing to remember before committing to laser treatments is that the procedure is still relatively new and results can vary considerably. If you decide that this hair removal process is for you, your next step is to consult with a technician of your choice and ask plenty of questions. If you are 100% satisfied with all of the technician answers, then this may very well be the answer to your unwanted hair dilemma.
